I watched some of the World Cup

I am an American, therefore, I’m not supposed to like soccer </joke>.

I was sitting down with my coffee and I decided to flip on the World Cup. Turns out, Comcast added ESPN2 HD yesterday, so all of the games will be available to me in HD. Anyway, I flipped on the Sweden vs Trinidad and Tobago match. I have to be honest, I enjoyed watching it. Sometime in the past, I read an article that said the reason why Soccer is so much fun to watch is that there isn’t an obvious build up to scoring. In football, you typically have a slow march towards the goal. In soccer, you can easily go from one end of the field to the other in a matter of seconds, and go from almost getting scored on to scoring in just as short of a time.

Am I going to skip work to watch matches? No. But, I will enjoy watching the matches.

Mmm. Tea!

I ordered my first order from Adagio Teas today. I’m excited, for a number of reasons. For starters, I’m a music person. The logo with the treble clef and the name “adagio” makes me happy. It’s fitting, really. I think of coffee as “upper” and tea as a “soother.” Adagio, in music terms, means slowly. Teas make me think of slowing down and enjoying them. See, fitting?

Second, their products look good. If your idea of tea is what is inside of a Lipton’s bag, then, you won’t recognize the tea from Adagio. I mean, look. Fruit! Whole pieces of fruit! Ever looked inside a fruit herbal tea packet from a big company? Do you see berries? Probably not. I haven’t tried it the fruit teas yet, but, they smell amazing.

Their site rocks. It’s very simple to navigate. Finding things is easy as pie. The shopping card management is cake. It’s fast and really well laid out. Ordering was straightforward. Shipping is fast (I ordered Monday at 3pm via ground shipping, and it arrived this morning at 10am.

I open the box and it’s packed with the air pillow packing material. I remove it and see the tins hand-wrapped in tissue paper. They included their “A Guide to Tea” book for free, a $9 value. I open the first one and find three tiny tins of the samplers. The Wife said they were adorable. I opened them up to find them totally filled with fruit pieces (I got samples of the Berry Blast, the Fruit Medley, and the Wild Strawberry herbal teas). They smell amazing. I haven’t made any of it yet, but I’m sure it’ll be awesome. On the label, it says “180° 7 Min,” brewing instructions. How amazingly simple and obvious… but no one else has thought of it.

Next, I unwrap the tin of Spearmint. The tin is metal with a label on it that doesn’t match the other labels (I’m assuming they’re transitioning their labelling and packaging). I open the top and it’s crammed full as well. It smells terrific. I can’t wait to try it. Next was the chamomile. Also, crammed full… How do they get them so full? Whole chamomile flowers. It’s beautiful. I brewed some up and it’s amazing. The Wife loved it.

But, to be honest, my favorite was the vanilla rooibos. I have to admit that the smell of the vanilla didn’t smell quite right to me… but, it sure tasted great. Wonderful dark red. The smell was that great vanilla tobacco smell that is signature of rooibos. The taste was amazing. Unfortunately, something came up and I couldn’t really enjoy it like I would have liked to.

In short, I highly recommend Adagio and their teas to everyone. You won’t be disappointed.

Zogby political survey questions

It’s Saturday, and The Wife and I have agreed that this will be a “do nothing” weekend… meaning, we’re going to do fun things we want that doesn’t require us to leave the house. For my part, I plan on settling in behind the computer here with my bagel, Starbucks Café Estima, Coffeemate French Vanilla, and iTunes. I load up World of Warcraft… and my new realm is down. So, I’m looking at buying a Valentine’s day gift for The Wife and playing my old high level character on a different realm (where I’m bored stiff). I decided to write about something that I’ve had in the cooker for a bit…

I’m occasionally get asked to take part in online Zogby political polls. They usually ask normal questions like “Do you think the country is headed in the right direction?” and “Are you proud or ashamed that President Bush is the President?” But, a few of the questions are designed to find patterns between people’s political views and their other habits…

6 Southern Baptist Churches Catch Fire on Same Night: Arson Suspected.

So, today, 6 different Southern Baptist churches caught fire in two different counties in Alabama. This afternoon, CNN is reporting that arson is suspected.

Really? Arson you say. You mean they didn’t all spontaneously combust at the same time? Maybe they pissed off The Big Guy and he decided to smote them? (smote, the past tense form of the word smite. Those words make me chuckle for some reason)

My thoughts on the State of the Union address.

I am a registered Democrat, but, I’m not a party loyalist. I think for myself, and I make decisions for myself. I think they should remove the “Vote all Republican” and “Vote all Democrat” options from voting ballots. But, I find that my values, more often than not, align with the left. I think that Bush is a douche, and I am ashamed that he leads our country.

With that being said, here are some of my thoughts about the State of the Union address.

  • I enjoy that the Democrats aren’t standing or applauding at the stupid things he says that gets all of the Republicans to stand and applaud.
  • ABC is broadcasting the speech in HD. Bush has REALLY hairy ears. His barber should have fixed that.
  • In a follow up to the previous bullet, he’s getting age spots on his face. (It’s amazing how much a person ages while in office. Look at Clinton in 93 and again in 2000.)
  • He started to read a letter from a soldier who died. I stopped listening, because it was a ploy. Then they cut to his family. They stood, people started clapping and than everyone stood up. Mom and Wife both pat their hearts with the left hands at the same time. I threw up a bit in my mouth.
  • The Congress must be watching England’s House of Commons because there have been a lot of vocalisations… cheering and moaning. I like it.
  • OH SNAP! </jon stewart> Bush: “Congress did not act last year on my proposal to save Social Security…” Democrats stand up and applaud and cheer. Damn. They’ve got balls.
  • He mentioned the success of No Child Left Behind. I’m sure plenty of people smarter than me will be willing to dispute that it has been successful.
  • Okay, well, it’s now 1 hour-ish in, and I’ve stopped paying full attention. Oh, I found out why. He was trying to end on an inspiring note. It didn’t work for me.

The Governor of Virginia is giving the Democratic response, but he didn’t get HD. He keeps his left eyebrow raised and is kind of like a Bond villain. Also, I don’t know if I like “There’s a better way” mantra. But, I agree with the things that he’s saying.
